Below are the cover page and pages 11-12 of the KTB from U-123's 8th War patrol, the boat's second patrol to the US East Coast.  This KTB is more readable than most.  In many cases text is cut off at the edges and faded or blurred such that it is impossible to read.   In the excerpt, the Commander, Kapitänleutnant Reinhard Hardegen, describes the sinking of USS ATIK (AK-101), a Q-ship converted from the merchant vessel SS CAROLYN.  Midshipman Holzer was mortally wounded during this engagement
