6 August put to sea from Lorient.  7 August "ARKANSAS" and 2 cruisers, course 110°, medium speed, range 7-8 nm. 29 August BC 8599 aircraft with lights, no detection. remained unnoticed.  3 September arrived in operations area.  3 September BB 5957 7000 ton tanker, course 95°, 12 knots, no zigzags.  Three early detonators, reversal shot miss, explained, end of run detonator, then sank with reversal shot.  By day BB 5918 15000 ton troop transport heard, passed by.  8 September BB 1869 small convoy, course 120°, 12 knots.  Suspect auxiliary carrier.  Surfaced, steady detection, unable to take bearings.  During attack star shells and on board weapons from destroyer.  Dived.  While getting in reversal shot on destroyer.  After 11 minutes torpedo detonation.  Sinking sounds heard in the boat and GHG.  After that light day air and each day search groups, destroyers and ML-Boote, harmless.  No shooting position, nearly always passed by, because listening range was less than visual range due to water layers.  Traffic stopped, in steamer route up to BA 38 nothing more seen.  Beacons burn as in peacetime, no Very Low Frequency.  Left the Gulf.  27 September BB 5599 small vessel with lights, suspect patrol vessel, course 70°, 8 knots, nights submerged reversal shot miss, unexplained, end of run detonator.  Day BB 5947 12000 ton, course 280°, 17 knots.  Four-miss due to long range and target angle, one end of run detonator.  30 September after 4 weeks snorkeling surfaced.  5 October repeated order to "Set off, report situation" forced return transit, one promising week in BB 50 sacrificed.  Outer-half of Gulf no air, only after Radio Message sent.  14 October AK 7984 aircraft with lights, no detection.  14 October - 17 October weather reports sent in vain.  Extremely bad transmitting conditions.  Went through the Denmark Strait, to save snorkel periods, and because oil loss through the snorkel bushings.  6 November ran into Farsund.  7 November went to Kristiansand in convoy. 8 November to 10 November in convoy to Flensburg, 11 November arrived Flensburg.
