    05.40   Astern a detonation was heard.  Soon thereafter a 2nd.  Believe that "U-105" has attacked.  
    05.47 DT 9352 1st shot:  9000-ton steamer.  Hit center.  Target speed 7 knots, range = 1500 meters.  Sinking observed.  
    05.50   2nd shot:  Target speed 7 knots, range = 900 meters, target angle 80°, 6000-ton steamer.  Steamer burned.

        Submerged the bursting of the sinking ships was heard close to the boat.  
        Between 2 torpedo detonations in the immediate vicinity.  Boat proceeded at depth 70 meters.  Soon thereafter impacts as from artillery fire.   
        A steamer sinks with a loud roar close by the boat.  The combat on the surface is half as dangerous as down here where there is continual cracking and explosions.  With it continual propeller sounds from destroyers, steamers and a U-boat.  
    07.10   Moved off submerged on course 90°.  Slowly it was calmer.  
    07.30   Surfaced.  Lights from lifeboats are seen astern.  Otherwise faint twilight.  
        Because it will be bright soon moved off a little to starboard and began to reload torpedoes.

    17.50   Surfaced.  Shot the steamer with artillery.  It was loaded with wood.  16 shots of explosive and 5 shots incendiary ammunition.  Afterwards several shots at close range with the M.G. C30.  Steamer apparently floats on its cargo.  Stem now juts about 6-7 meters out of the water.  Afterwards both lifeboats were provided with water.  The steamer came from statements from Port Luis in Canada.  A steamer of the same size was said to have passed through the same area.

        Steamer was thought to be neutral.  But seemed suspicious in this area.  Had an illuminated flag at the stern.  Due to the very bright moonlit night could not get close to him.  
        At about 2500-3000 meters the steamer must have noticed us.  He gave ST and other letters by Morse lamp.  
        However the steamer did not stop, instead ran on at 2-3 knots and turned towards a bit.  No further Morse letters were given.  
        Those from the boat were not answered.  
    02.54 Bright moonlit night Kommandant decided to move off and head to the location again in the morning gray.  
    03.27   Steamer lights pass out of sight.  
    03.40   In the direction [the steamer] passed out of sight a dimmed vessel on course 130°.  It is a steamer similar to the one seen previously and it was thought that in fact, it was the same one.  A trap or auxiliary warship was suspected.  Due to the bright moonlit night and because the position of the boat was known, moved off to sea.

                        The attack on the convoy on 8 March was an especially good performance.  The entire execution of the patrol was sure, deliberate and good.  The success is very gratifying.
