    090.6.42 Kiel Put to sea with orders to head for AK 65.  
   

14.06.42

  After two reminders position report from AE 83.  
    18.06.42   BdU to U-215:  At economical transit speed go to CA 50 via BC 77, BB 82, BB 77.  
         
    19.06.42   U-215 reports:  Bearings taken on passing report three times.  Aircraft bombs AF 7287.  Main ballast tank 5 torn, 13.5 cbm lost.  Position AL 1835.  155 cbm.  
    04.30    
    09.49   BdU to U-215:  No indication of bearings taken.  Boat was sighted once, whereupon further enemy aircraft were employed.  
    23.06.42   U-215 reports on request from BC 7363, fuel 138 cbm.  
    30.06.42   BdU to U-215:  After passing ordered objective square give situation report.  If operation in BB is promising, remain there; otherwise head for CA 79 and operate according to Degen situation report.  
    03.07.42   Situation report from U-215.  BB 70 no traffic.  Halifax beacons burn as in peacetime.  There air and sea surveillance.  Position CB 12, 127 cbm.  
           
      There was no answer to requests for situation and position reports on 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 June.  
      U-215 was declared missing one star on 23 August 1942, on 20 January 1943 missing two stars with effect from 8 July 1942.  Total loss is accepted.
