Note:  The positions in the table above and in the Google Earth patrol summary are derived from the KTB and in many cases do not match those set forth in authoritative references such as Jürgen Rohwer, Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two or the Uboat.net website.  The goal here is to present the picture relative to the U-boat and not the absolute position that the ship was attacked or sank.

1.)  Traffic always proceeds via main harbor.  In the Caribbean as convoys.  On the Atlantic side still independents.  To the Caribbean outbound convoys about every 6 days 16 to 20 ships.  Atlantic traffic on changing narrow traffic lanes.  Outbound following the narrows, inbound stragglers.
2.)  With favorable moon boats between square HH 1487 to 1469 to catch outbound convoys which apparently always leave in the morning.  Submerged by day to remain unseen there at all costs.  Frequent all around sweeps, contact holding hardly possible on the next day.
3.)  Convoys have weak, untrained escorts. Use of radar uncertain.  Found no night aircraft except for here.
4.)  With unfavorable moon set off to try and catch Atlantic traffic off the main harbor in the detected direction
5.)  When a traffic lane is determined, other boats operate on this as quickly as possible.
Up to 180 nm from the coast danger from land-based bombers has been determined, therefore later always submerged by day.
6.)  Operation of several boats in this area promises continued success.

        General Experiences:
With about 80 sea days personnel and material were at the limit for this type of boat.  For this prevailing good weather and light patrols are required.  (For care of the over deck linkage and cannons as well as relaxation of personnel).
In this operations area (Caribbean) [uesd] a fifth lookout for high-flying aircraft, nontheless with the best weather not safe from dangerous surprise.  Air combat on the surface with the current anti-aircraft armament (MG C/30 and MG 34) not practicable also when surprised.  Nights, pursued into convoy twice from behind, less time was required than maneuvering ahead.  Good plotting values, relatively un-alert screen.

In convoys single shots up to about 2000 meters (fans at correspondingly longer distances) with good plotting data were still accurate.  (When turning up to shoot pay attention to rapidly broadening target angle).
