Patrol of "U-766" from 9 March 1944 to 16 April 1944
 
     
  To 5. U.Flottille.  
  "U-993" and "U-766" anchored at Point 01 due to fog.  
     
  To 5. U.Flottille.  
  "U-993" and "U-766" taken in convoy began transit.  
     
  On 25 March at 08.00 hours Wilke switch to "Ireland" Circuit. Rudolf to "America II".  
     
  Convoy in large square AM 3236 up to 5 steamers, course 50°.       "U-766".  
     
  Knackfuß, Wilke report position and fuel on crossing the longitude of AL 6655.  After giving the report both boats switch "Diana" Circuit.  
     
  To Wilke.  For Kommandant 26 March healthy girl born, both well.  
     
  Large square AL 35.  Still have 110 cbm fuel.        "U-766"  
     
  To Wilke as attack area occupy square AL 50.  Switch Diana Circuit.  
     
  Hilbig, Wilke, Ketels and Knackfuß immediately return to Western France.  
     
  To further radio deception all returning boats give at least one Short Signal or Radio Message in an area south of the latitude of 4355 and between the longitudes of 4615 and 6415.  All BE.  
     
  1.)  Knackfuß, Hilbig, Wilke, Fischer, Ketels run at high speed during submerged transit.  2.)  Stark as attack area occupy AL 10 to 40.  According to moon, defense and weather western or eastern part and up to and beyond the east boundary.  
     
  Return harbor for Kruschka and Knackfuß is Brest, Liesburg and Wilke Nazaire, for Cremer, Ketles Pallice, for Just Lorient.  Run into Brest on Route Eisbar.              From F.d.U. -West-  
     
  My position is large square BE 5427.  
     
  On 10 April at 08.00 switch Coastal Circuit:  Kruschka, Wilke, Just.  
     
  To Hilbig, Wilke, Fischer, Knackfuß, Ketels, Stark, Sternberg.  Conduct return transit to Western France with full attention to the ordered precautions.  Only run at high speed if proceeding on the surface anyway.  
     
  "U-766" from 6.-U.Fl.  Escort stands on 17 April at 03.00 hours at Herz 439.  
     
  In Radio Message 1010/14/77 must mean on 16 April at 03.00 hours, not 17 April.  
     
  Returning boats must strive to reach the convoy intake point punctually.  Therefore allow high time reserve for potential diving maneuvers with air danger.  To avoid moving back and forth on arriving, can proceed submerged on the outer route up to the 100 meter line at depth up to 30 meters.
