  [Group North and South were groups of outbound boats crossing the Bay of Biscay] Leader of the North Group is U-84.  Neither the North or South Group receives close escort today because of lack of strength.

        Group Uphoff:  10.45 hours Ju 88 tasked as close escort.  
    14.30 BF 4992 From U-84:  
        Last Short Signal confirmed as unclear was from me.  Must mean:  240°, speed 13 knots.

        Additional Ju 88 took off.  Close escort intended up to darkness.

    00.40 DM 4128 From U-84:  
        1)  Situation:  DM 70 like U-732.  DL 60:  Medium traffic along the edge of the Bank.  Light inexperienced day and night air, with the moon without radar sometimes with lights.  Yucatan Strait strong night air without radar.  DM 18, 19, 27 medium independent and convoy traffic east-west and the reverse in visual range of beacons.  Day strong air, nights sea and light air with radar.  Tortugas objective point out of the Gulf.  
        2)  16 July DL 6415 three-fan on 6000 GRT, left burning.  21 July double and single unexplained miss on 7000 GRT.  Impacts heard.  1 tube runner.  
        3)  28 July DM 1949 during tanker hunt starboard diesel piston seizure.  Again ready for 13 knots.  4 plus 1 torpedoes.  53 cbm, provisions for 3 weeks.  Request Metox tubes.  
        4)  Day roll call is too early.  Missing Serial Numbers.

        U-84 head for CD 40.  About there supply from U-117 for further transit to the homeland intended.

        . . . . Uphoff . . . Return transit in direction DF 30.  Due to the tense supply situation economical fuel and provisions consumption is mandatory for all boats.

        Still have 36 cbm and 3 weeks provisions.

    12.03   From B.d.U.:  
        1)  U-760 begin return transit.  
        2)  In CD 7925 wait on U-84, arrival is expected from 18 August.  Radio silence.  Only report, if boat is not met by 21 August.  
        3)  Give fuel and provisions for transit to Bergen.  After completion report "yes".  
    22.05   From B.d.U.:  
        From 15 August 08.00 hours switch to Ireland Circuit.

    05.54   From B.d.U. to U-760 and U-84:  
        New meeting point from 19 August 16.00 hours is CD 4516.  
           
              Because U-84 was not at the meeting point, on 26 August it was ordered to report position, this remained without answer.  
              U-760 encountered an enemy destroyers at the meeting point CD 7925 for 18 August and received depth charges.  It was assumed that U-84 was destroyed by the same units.  
              "U-84" was declared missing one star on 3 September effective 26 August, on 18. May 1944 declared missing two stars.  
              Total loss is assumed.
