Note:  The positions in the table above and in the Google Earth patrol summary are derived from the KTB and in many cases do not match those set forth in authoritative references such as Jürgen Rohwer, Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two or the Uboat.net website.  The goal here is to present the picture relative to the U-boat and not the absolute position that the ship was attacked or sank.

 

This KTB uses the depth notation "depth T = xx meters"  Under this scheme, the actual depth was twice the depth given after T = so for example, if the KTB entry read "depth T = 50 meters, the actual depth was 100 meters.  This was intended to hide the actual depth for security purposes. This notation was used from about January 1940 to December 1941.  In these KTBs, depths written without using "T =", for example "dived to depth 35 meters" were not so disguised.

    During the shipyard period the following work was carried out:  
    Ship construction:    
    Cleaning and painting of the engine rooms and the bilges.  Sealing of the ventilation head valve, the forward Marcks buoy and the main rudder drive stuffing boxes.  Overhaul of the hatches, the sinks and lockers, the loading gear, the hoist, the depth gages, the support shelves, the fire extinguishers, the bunks, the over deck fasteners and closures.  Packing of the flood valve linkage for main ballast tank and reserve fuel oil tanks 2 and 4.  Painting of the heads and the galley.  
    Engine installation:    
    Repair of the outer exhaust gas valves, the diesel clutches, the fuel valves, the valves for the cooling water pumps, the fuel oil transfer pump, the auxiliary drain and trim pump, the spark arrestor, the low pressure reducer, the check valves, the start valves, the air whistle.  Check of the crank bearings starboard 3 and 4 and port 3 and 4.  Grinding of the exhaust gas valves, the valves for flooding and pumping manifold.  Sealing main ballast and reserve fuel oil tank 4 port and the valve for 2 i.  Renewing the cooling water piping.  Cleaning the lubricating oil consumption tank including the filter.  Check of the spring clutches of the superchargers and the starboard supercharger clutch.  Adjusting the starboard engine.  
    E-systems:      
    Overhaul and removal of the gyro-compass transformers.  Overhaul of the diving plane motors, the hand searchlights, the starters, the cooling system, the battery powered room lighting, the stern light.  Checking the gyro-compass.  Repair of ship and battery shorts.  Over charging.  
    Torpedo system:      
    Overhaul of the entire torpedo system.  
    Radio Message system:    
    Overhaul of the K.D.B., all of ther Radio converters, the loudspeaker system, the record player, the radio direction finder.  
    Artillery:      
    Overhaul of the periscopes, the 8.8 cm SK, the M.G. C/30, the M.G./34 the MP. 28 [typo 38?], 6 pairs of binoculars, the fire control system, the aft torpedo shooting receiver and the graduated ring of the UZO.
