Note:  The positions in the table above and in the Google Earth patrol summary are derived from the KTB and in many cases do not match those set forth in authoritative references such as Jürgen Rohwer, Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two or the Uboat.net website.  The goal here is to present the picture relative to the U-boat and not the absolute position that the ship was attacked or sank.

        1)  Assessment of operational intentions of the enemy in the western area require unconditional clarity concerning the general weather conditions.  Therefore continual weather reports are of greatest importance.
        2)  They occupy as attack and weather reporting area:  Dobratz AK 1279, Lange AL 4469, Hornbostel BD 4654, Hechler BE 5454.  Depth 200 nm and report from these areas three times in 24 hours.
        3)  Begin reports immediately (even in transit).  If strengthening of air defenses is determined with certainty, free to evade and use deceptive courses.
        4)  Duration of tasking is not known, early relief is sought.
        5)  Importance and seriousness of the task requires the use of all measures.  For this careful selection of transmitting wavelength, for this observation of the Volume of the check transmissions is decisive.

The boat was tasked with weather reporting 3 x daily in square AL 44 depth 200 nm.  Weather was only sent after careful observation of the wavelength using outside the zero gap procedures.  In the southern part of the operations area always on 54 and 24 meters, in the northern part by night sometimes got through badly, always well by day.  Attempted to transmit by day over the snorkel Fu.M.B. antenna om 24 meters, which worked a few times.  Was not performed further.

      Locating:
4 x on Borkum, light night air, not observed by day.

      Sound bearings:
In the operations area no sound bearings.  Traffic not observed.  A few times very distant depth charges, detected in the direction of radio locating of radio messages.

      Snorkeling:
Good even in heavy Sea State (8-9).  Difficult in choppy sea (Swell and Sea State on opposite directions).  Crew Crew behaved well while snorkeling and proved their worth.  Snorkel failures were repaired quickly.
