			Exploit decreasing moon to operate near the coast. There is the possibility that traffic runs close offshore recently.

	21.00		From U-164:
			1) Since 22 December leak in pressure hull under battery 1. Just determined during survey of main ballast tank 5 starboard. Leak through pitting at the level of frame 51 beneath cell 21. Boat is no longer capable of deep diving. In 24 hours the battery bilge makes 1.5 tons water. Can not be repaired with onboard means.
			2) Position 3558. Going to 40. All FC.
			3) Suggest offset operation until fuel is consumed. Still 140 cbm.

			"U-164" free to maneuver according to boat condition.

	29.12.42		From B.d.U.:
			Check, if after emptying forward main ballast tanks in good weather with heeling to port if hammering of hardwood plug is possible. Manhole cover 5 lies over cell 21.

	01.01.43		From U-164:
			1) Today sank after examining in FB 3815 Swede "BRAGELAND" 2700 GRT with wool, coffee and piece goods from Santos roadstead for Philadelphia, course 320°.
			2) Leak in pressure hull sealed provisionally.
			3) Junkers compressor out of service. Require complete mechanism for fuel and cooling water pump.

		Because there were no further reports received, request for situation and position on 20, 21 and 23 January 1942 remained unanswered.
		According to communication of Matr.Gfr. Jädike the boat was sunk by an aircraft at 04.00 on a still unknown day. 2 soldiers taken prisoner.
		"U-164" was declared missing one star effective 20 January.

      "U-164" was declared lost two stars with effect from 6 January 1943. On this day received notification by the Protecting Power that two men of the crew are prisoners of war; 54 soldiers, among them the Kommandant, remain.
